Mogens Kirkeby has been a driving force behind the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA) since 1998. He initially served as ISCA’s Secretary-General and has held the position of President since 2007. In addition to his active role within ISCA, he serves as a Board Member and Vice Chair of DGI, Denmark’s largest grassroots sports organisation, and as Vice Chair of the Bureau of the Council of Europe’s Consultative Committee for Sport (EPAS).
Kirkeby has played a central role in shaping ISCA’s mission and expanding its international influence. Under his leadership, the organisation has launched numerous initiatives aimed at increasing physical activity among citizens—particularly those who are typically underrepresented in sport. These include campaigns such as NowWeMOVE, which aims to create a more physically active Europe, and MOVE Week, a pan-European event showcasing the benefits of active lifestyles. He regularly publishes commentary on subjects such as the value of grassroots sport, sport and health, organisational governance, cross-sector collaboration, and education and training.
Widely recognised as the public face of ISCA, Kirkeby frequently travels around the world to speak at conferences, parliamentary committees, and policy forums. He is deeply involved in advocacy work, collaborating with European institutions and international partners to integrate sport and physical activity into broader health and social agendas. His work focuses on strengthening the capacity of grassroots organisations and encouraging innovation in community sport. Through his continued efforts, he remains a leading advocate for the view that sport is not just for elite athletes, but a fundamental right and valuable resource for all.
Kirkeby lives in Birkerød, Denmark, and is married with three children. His hobbies include cycling, running, rowing, football, golf, and swimming.
