Martin Machado

Head of Secretariat, Danish Hiking Association

Martin Machado is a passionate hiker with a background in education and the voluntary sector. He currently serves as Head of Secretariat at the Danish Hiking Association, a nationwide organisation dedicated to the promotion of physical and mental wellbeing through walking. He oversees 21 local branches and more than 600 committed volunteers who continually work to develop the association.

Machado and his colleagues firmly believe that hiking contributes to a healthier lifestyle and are committed to making outdoor activities accessible to all. The Danish Hiking Association strives to ensure the best possible conditions for hikers in Denmark, while also promoting environmental awareness and a responsible hiking culture.

Today, the association is an inclusive social community that aims to make everyone feel welcome, regardless of age or fitness level. It is also recognised as an important source of information on exercise, sustainability and the outdoor life. The association offers courses, workshops and resources to help its members—and the wider public—explore the countryside safely and responsibly.

In an age dominated by screens and technology, Machado believes that reconnecting with nature has never been more important.
